Replace regular wheat by Khapli Wheat?

Khapli wheat is oldest wheat also known as emmer or doccum wheat. Today emmer is primarily a relict crop in mountanious areas. its values lies in its ability to give good yields on poor soil and its resistance to fungal diseases. Khapli's main use in as a human food, though it is also used for animal feed. In parts of india, emmer wheat (in maharashtra called 'khapli gehu' meaning custy wheat) is grown as a drought and stress resistant wheat variety with some work ongoing to improve yields, as a result of increased interest in this variety due to possible value for diabetics.



“Khapli,” is found to have curative properties for treating diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Its capacity to lower blood glucose and lipid levels and high temperature stress tolerance compared to other cultivated species makes it therapeutic.

Emmer is higher in fiber than the wheat we use today. As you probably know, we need fiber in our diet, and most people aren’t even close to meeting the recommendations.


Emmer wheat is rich in niacin of Vitamin B3, which is great for your heart and cholesterol levels. Emmer is also a rich source of magnesium and iron. Consuming khalpli wheat give benefits to lowering bad cholesterol and this is good for heart patients!
